Why is there a donate button on this site?
Because it costs about $100 per year to keep this site on the web and I (Rob) haven't played DAOC in years. I keep the site running as a favor to people who still play, but I'm not willing to pay for it. In the last year (2016 to 2017) $110 was donated -- just about the perfect amount -- and if that keeps up, the site will continue. If donations dry up, the site will shut down.

Catacombs character builder went under? That is sad times, I used that site extensively back in the day. I'd read their forums sometimes when I was bored.

Yeah, but with the improved training window in the game, maybe character builders aren't as important as they used to be.

Somebody is stil using catacomb.com's domain name but there's practically nothing there:

http://daoc.catacombs.com/

Maybe the owners started revamping the site a few years ago and never followed through. They published this comment in 2010:

Just want to let all of you DAoC players know that you can still access the Character Builder at http://daoc2.catacombs.com/cbuilder.cfm until we have it up here. If you are interested in helping out with a newer version of it, let me know by private message.

LOKI will also put gems on your crafting bar for you, if you bought a license for it. Not sure if newer versions will/won't, but my copy of 2.4 (Platinum) does (upon investigation, this version is out of date, but I'm kinda loathe to update it, because I love how this current version works so much), and it works, even though I usually fill my craft bars by hand because I'm anal about how my quickbars are set up.

Edit: I'm going to brave the uncharted wilds of LOKI v 2.5.2 and report back how this fairs with regards to setting up crafting bars. Wish me luck!

Good luck! Thanks for the reminder, I added Loki to that category. The free edition does have that feature. I think maybe GearBunny does too but I'll have to look and jog my memory. I looked at the feature in Loki and SetupCraftBar when I added the feature to Mojo, but I hadn't gotten around to adding Loki to that category yet -- I'm working on this listing right now.

What was the TOA guide that you liked? I can't remember what it was.

So far, 2.5.2 seems to function the exact same as 2.4, keyboard shortcuts are all the same as I remember them, etc. The only major change I've noticed was a color change from a grey background in blank areas to the new Microsoft pale-ish blue.

Possible new features I've found in 2.5.2 that I don't specifically remember existing in 2.4:
A window manager, for those who pop various windows out of the main LOKI window
Ability to import chat logs to generate items
Ability to import and export Kort templates

Ugh, I honestly can't remember any of them other than Vision of Sages, which is over at DAOC-ToA. I haven't used any of them in so long that I've forgotten where all this stuff is, but I'll go looking for some of it later.

DAOC-ToA I usually remember because I publish it but it was never the greatest site in the world and now it's ridiculously out of date because of the big ML nerf. Somebody posted a link to a much better one here a couple of years ago.

Master Level Guide looks like a winner. Haven't read the entire thing, but the parts I've skimmed are all accurate, detailed and easy to follow.

Thanks. I added them above. I changed titles slightly to make the links match the articles they refer to, otherwise it's disconcerting for readers when they click through.

Classes of Camelot is down...or at least their DNS is. Maybe they'll make a comeback, but unfortunately I know where that usually goes. It's so sad watching these olds sites fall, one by one...

Anyway, three of the calculators linked above (Weapon Speed, Growth Rate, and Emblem) were at CoC, and therefore no longer exist. I propose the following updates:

* There is a another weapon speed calculator already listed, so that isn't a big deal. Just take down the dead link.
* An emblem previewer can be found at http://www.etaew.net/daocdb/emblems.php (albeit not as nice of one, but it gets the job done). Maybe I'll whip up a more wieldy tool the next time I get bored.
* As for the Growth Rate calculator, does anyone know exactly what this did? Perhaps calculate style damage for a particular style/weapon combination? I'd be willing to write such a tool, or something similar, if someone would find it useful. Does anyone have any formulae that are more recent than what was on roclar?

On an unrelated note, I stumbled across some interesting information here:
https://sites.google.com/site/daoctests/home

I don't know how out-of-date that information may be, but it's certainly no more aged than roclar was.

I contacted CoC's publisher. The site went down by accident but he offered to let me take it over because (I think, I'm not sure) he no longer wants to maintain it.

He gave me a bunch of backups for the site which may or may not be complete. If somebody wants to volunteer to help restore that material to the web, I'll donate server space. Some of it may require ASP and/or PHP and/or MySQL skills.

daemion wrote:Just take down the dead link.

I'll wait on this because CoC may be back on the web at least temporarily.

daemion wrote:An emblem previewer can be found at http://www.etaew.net/daocdb/emblems.php (albeit not as nice of one, but it gets the job done).

Thanks, I'll add that.

It's explained in the last article on the Daoc Tests page you linked.

A working copy of this calculator is still on the web at the following link.

Looks to me like all that info is reproduced from the game's early years. It may be the same as the stuff on roclar -- a lot of that old data was copied on many websites.

I'll add that page.

Thanks again, and sorry for the slow reply. I was out of town, then sick, then forgot.

Gocoooo wrote:Can we post links of DAoC Free Shards here?

Gocoooo, I took your question as a suggestion and added a freeshard category to the FAQ at the start of this thread. It contains an entry for Dawn of Light. If a reader is looking for a list of freeshards, that entry will let them find it. Thank you for the suggestion.

If you're planning to make a list of freeshards, you're free to do that, there's no rule against it here, but I don't see the point because (1) Dawn of Light already has a perfectly fine directory of freeshards and (2) nobody will keep it up to date here, so if you (or anybody) makes one here, it will quickly become inaccurate and/or incomplete.

Members can't start threads in this forum section. Use the General DAOC section instead. Gocoooo, that's where your other threads were moved.
